Elke Brackmann:

On the first anniversary of Robert Detobel’s death, 22 September 2019

The authorship controversy in mind

You scribbled fiery thoughts into a book;

Outside, in mild September. – Death did find

It adequate to end your pensive look

Into the matter. Thus, he broke your will

To live with single stroke. Your eyes were shut,

Your friends – appalled – had little time to still

Their woes or say good-bye. But thoughts unduly cut

Just rise again. Your insights and your passion,

Your true companions, Robert, will endure

And mock the final moments when your ashen

Face did show men’s transience for sure.

In other spheres you play your part and fight,

Unmasking souls confusing dark and light.
